Tracker Security Keys
To keep Tracker secure against unauthorized access, a physical security key is required along with your password to log in to your account.
This security key technology is one of the best ways to secure accounts against unauthorized access. With security keys enabled, an attacker needs to know your password and have access to a physical key associated with your account before they are able to log in. This extra layer of security makes it very difficult for your account to be compromised.
QUICKSTART
Setup
To link your security key, log in to Tracker and click your name in the left-side menu. A window will pop up allowing you to change your account details and preferences. Clicking the "Security Keys" option in the window that pops up will show the registered keys for your account and allow you to add security keys.
To add your new key, first enter a nickname for the key, such as "Primary Key" and click the "Add Key" button.
A prompt will be shown asking you to insert the security key in your device and then to touch the touch pad on the key to register it to your account. You can insert your security key in any available USB port on your device, or in a USB port available on a USB hub attached to your device. When the prompt is shown asking you to insert and touch the key, a light on the touch pad of the key should blink.
Once you've touched the security key, it will be registered to your account and will show in the "Registered Keys" area of the Security Keys view. Multiple security keys can be added to your account for added convenience. If you were to lose one, you could still access your account without needing technical support by using the secondary key, for example.
Use Security Keys to Log In
If you do not have your security key, you will not be able to log in, so it is important to keep it with you whenever you need to access the Tracker system.
Desktop Computer
Once you have linked a security key to your account, each time you log in to Tracker you will be asked to insert your key into your device and touch the touch pad after providing your username and password.
Mobile Devices
Your security key can also be used when logging in to Tracker on mobile devices using NFC. NFC is commonly used for tap-to-pay functionality on iPhone 7 and above, and many Android devices. If your device supports Apple Pay or Google Pay, you are probably able to use NFC to log in to Tracker with your security key.
When logging in to Tracker on a mobile device, you can tap your security key to your phone's NFC reader when it prompts you to verify with your key. The location you will need to place the key on your device is the same as you would use for Apple Pay or Google Pay and is different on every device.
**NFC functions may only be accessible to native browsers. For iOS, please ensure device software is fully up-to-date and you are using Safari as the web browser (Chrome for iOS is currently not supported)
Lost or Stolen Security Key?
If your security key is lost, or stolen it needs to be removed from your account to prevent unauthorized access. The process for doing this depends on how many security keys are registered to your account.
Only 1 Security Key Registered
Contact your store manager, supervisor, or tech support to have the security key removed and re-gain access to your account.
More Than 1 Security Key Registered
If there there is more than one security key registered to your account and you have access to another security key, you can log in to your account and remove the lost or stolen key from your account yourself. Go to the Security Keys window of your account settings and click the delete button next to the key's nickname in the Registered Keys section.
If you have no remaining security keys registered to your account, make sure you register a new one as soon as possible. Contact your store manager, supervisor, or tech support to get a new key.
Best Practices
Use Multiple Keys
You have been provided with a security key for your Tracker account and if you should ever forget, lose, or have it stolen, we have the ability to remove the key from your account and add a new one later. The best way to manage this, however, is to have multiple keys registered to your account and kept in separate places so that if one is misplaced, you can still access your account with another.
If you would like to get more keys to use with Tracker and/or other accounts, you can find them through reputable retailers such as Amazon, or at the manufacturer's websites. We recommend Yubico, SoloKeys, or Feitian FIDO certified devices.
Keep Keys With You
If you use multiple services with your key, or use your Tracker account on multiple devices, it may be best to always keep the security key with you so you have it available whenever you need it. You could keep it on your keychain, or in your purse or wallet. If you decide to keep your security keys with you, it becomes more important to use multiple keys for each service so that you have a backup if your primary security key is ever lost or stolen.
Keep Keys in Your Device
If you only use your Tracker account on one computer, and only use your security key for your Tracker account, it may be better to keep the key plugged into your computer. This way you don't risk losing the key or forgetting it at home, and always have it available when you are ready to log in to your Tracker account.
